The tale of Rocket Farm Pig

Hello, this is Daniel Katcher CEO of Rocket Farm Studios!

I think the most common question people ask me is, “How did you come up with the name of your business, and WHY did you use a pig in your logo?!”
That story, as it turns out, is an interesting one.

It’s the tale of a small pig born on a small farm in a small town in eastern Vermont, who grew to become a superhero and a champion for all things mobile.
Once upon a time, Rocket Pig knew he was very different.

Perhaps it was the rocket that appeared one day outside his crib, or the ultra-cool Steampunk goggles found draped around his head that same morning.
But it was also his skills and his attitude.

Even as a baby, Rocket Pig showed traits that grew to define his Superhero-ness later in life. Talented with tools and electricity, Rocket Pig wired up the barn with a sensor-driven sound system, streaming animal tunes throughout the day, that automatically shut off at the approach of the farmer.

It wasn’t long before young Rocket Pig had all the animals in the barnyard rocketing.

Art from the chickens soon went up on walls, stalls were transformed by the horses and cows went into meditation rooms during the day. The sheep were particularly adept at building things: an irrigation system in the summer and heaters in the winter.

Sure there were occasional spats like you’d find in any real organization.
“What the cluck!” said the duck.
“Moooove out of my way,” said the cow.

But with Rocket Pig’s skills, differences soon seemed secondary to the mission of the barnyard and a deeper understanding of teamwork was achieved every day.
As Rocket Pig grew older, he kept trying on his rocket, wondering what his purpose was and what he was meant to do. But still, he didn’t fly.

Perhaps it was fate, or perhaps it was just good timing, but soon everything changed for him.

In 2007 the animals saw their very first glimpse of an iPhone. The animals knew that such a beautiful device, combining phone, the Internet, all sorts of sensors, along with a beautiful display and touchscreen, would change the world, as they knew it.

The animals recognized that so much power and purpose would cause a bigger wave of innovation than even the Internet itself had started.
And when apps started showing up in the brand new Apple App Store, the light went on.

At that moment, Rocket Pig finally grasped his true purpose, the meaning of his Rocket, and the incredible Steampunk accessory goggles.
He was meant to fly and show the world the mobile way.

So he strapped on the goggles and lit that rocket, and presented himself to the world as a bacon of hope for the mobile way.

From that point forward, whenever there was a cry for innovation, Rocket Pig and his good friends at Rocket Farm were there at the speed of a rocket.

Wherever there was a thirst for creativity and clean, intuitive experiences, Rocket Pig would save the day.
Whenever there was a desire for some good, old rock-solid engineering, Rocket Pig would light the fire again.
Where there was ingenuity yearning to be set free, where CMOs were struggling to turn concepts into ROI-backed products, Rocket Pig would be there.

So that is the true story of Rocket Pig, our mascot, logo, and hero!

3 Key Characteristics of Mobile Sales Apps

These days at Rocket Farm, we’re focusing a lot of energy in the area of mobile sales enablement.
It’s pretty tough not to notice how many companies have begun equipping their sales forces with mobile sales enablement apps. Forward-thinking sales managers and marketing directors are making the move to mobile apps because they improve their sales teams’ results by enhancing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and help their marketing teams design and deploy collateral that better supports their company’s goals. Sales forces become more of a force by being more profitable, productive, and efficient as a result of the dynamic, real-time content management systems and interactive presentation tools made available by these mobile apps.
Here’s our very simple conclusion: mobile strategies will continue to rock the B2B sales world.
Let’s start by taking a quick peek at some data on tablets:
Forrester predicts that 375,000,000+ tablets will be sold in 2016 alone, 1/3 of which will be to businesses, and that by then, 760,000,000+ tablets will be already be in use, clearly demonstrating that mobile is progressing rapidly, and will continue to into the foreseeable future.

In Q1 2012, the iPad made up over 97% of all enterprise tablet activations. However, iOS isn’t the uncontested champion of tablets anymore. More recently, other tablet manufacturers that support the Android OS have managed to close the gap on the iPad. You can expect this platform duel to continue through the next few years at least.

Rise of the Mincubator Part 2

It’s official – we’ve moved.
Some notes from history.  As a bootstrapped startup Rocket Farm has gotten really good at finding great homes.  We’ve been lucky to be hosted by two different clients, and our most recent landlord, Gazelle, was amazingly supportive and inclusive, and drew us happily into #Seaport living.
Now it’s come time for the Farm to stand on our own.  We are super excited to be moving just around the corner from Thomson Place to 374 Congress Street, on the corner of Congress and Stillings.  Mere footsteps from Lucky’s and Barrington Coffee, MassChallenge, the ICA and the Children’s Museum.  We love being in the #Seaport!!!
And what’s more we have room in our space for our own Mincubator. We’re already thrilled to have Noteflight in as our partner and space-sharer.
