If you want your product to succeed, you need a clear understanding of the opportunity and how it fits into the market.

During Discovery, that’s our focus. We learn everything we can about your business, market and competitors — and most important, users — and lay the groundwork for a strong product and a seamless app development process.

Our Goals

  • Understand the potential market and user(s)
  • Evaluate the competition
  • Gain a baseline for market fit: Do you have passionate users in a specific market?
  • Gain a baseline for product fit: What product design and features are required to build user loyalty?
  • Gain a baseline for organizational fit: Is your organization able to execute the plan from a tech and marketing standpoint?
  • Understand your business and distribution models
  • Evaluate your technology capabilities and asset, and determine what we must develop to meet your goals

Here’s What We Do For You

Key activities:

Define a list of users

We develop a deep understanding of your users — whether that is customers, employees, vendors or partners — and build a preliminary high-level persona for each user type.

Gather requirements for your Minimal Viable Product (MVP)

We’ll establish and catalog a list of well-organized functional (e.g., features) and system-oriented requirements (e.g., reliability, scalability, security) necessary to develop an MVP.

If appropriate, we may also include architecture and user workflow diagrams to help visualize key flows.

Draft a brand map

Your brand tells the world what your product and business is all about. Branding is vitally important because it is how people will recognize and connect with you. It is what differentiates your product from your competitors.

If you haven’t done so, we’ll help you craft an initial brand and product positioning to articulate the problems your product solves or value it brings.

Perform a competitive analysis

During Discovery, we create a high-level view of your competitors, which we later refine during subsequent stages. Activities include auditing their social presence, reviewing keywords and assessing business models to gain basic insight into the industry and its players.

We also analyze your existing content, social and keyword strategies, as well as the search landscape, be that app store or web, to see how it currently stacks up against the competition.

We pinpoint your North Star Metric, the one metric that captures your core value, and establishes a baseline to measure progress. We also determine:

  • Your data strategy (how to collect, analyze and leverage information) and how it ties into your business model
  • What dashboards to develop that will help you visualize how the system and the business model is working”
  • How to capture and measure metrics
  • Issues that could impact metrics
  • Industry benchmarks for comparison

At Rocket Farm, we can supplement the team and technology that you have — or build both from scratch to meet your specific needs. During this step, we’ll review key elements of your organization, including your technology stack, marketing team and distribution models to determine how best to support your project.

  • What’s your development process, if you have one?
  • What skill sets and experience do you have internally that can support the project? If so, we can help you build your team internally. If not, we can be a long-term IT partner.
  • What is our tech strategy?
  • What key IP do you hold or need to develop?
  • What existing infrastructure and key tech do you want to use? And do we need to create specialized technology to meet your goals (e.g., machine learning or image processing)
